Bunda Auctioneers held a successful jewelry
auction at NYC’s Barbizon Hotel last December.
Bunda sees a niche in the
marketplace and decides to fill it - a place for nice quality jewelry, which
for the most part sells for under $2,000.
Mark Bunda, the director of the firm,
says that a piece of jewelry sold for under $1,200 at one of the major auction
houses is not profitable for them, but it can be for him. |
|
|
And there are plenty of
customers who love jewelry but can't afford the pieces that go for many
times those amounts. It appears Mr. Bunda knows
his market because 75% of the lots offered were sold.

The auction featured property mostly from private
sources and offered fine examples of antique and modern jewelry by famous
designers including Buccellati, Angela Cummings, Cartier, Karl-Heinz Junger,
Tiffany, and David Webb.
The jewelry offered in Bunda's
sale ranged from a George Jensen brooch which realized $92 (all prices
include the 15% buyer’s premium) to a round brilliant-cut 2.01 carat
diamond of I color, VS1 clarity which sold for $9,775.
There
was also a quantity of collectible purses which did not fare that well, |
